Natalie Confident of victory in ID10
18 February 2010
Inter Dominion queen Natalie Rasmussen is growing in confidence her champion pacer Blacks A Fake can create history at Watpac ID10.
Natalie said the nine-year-old had thrived during his first week at Brian Hancock’s Wollongong stables and had the bonus of an ideal draw in tomorrow night’s opening round heats at Harold Park.
“When there’s only two rounds of heats so can’t afford to get behind after night one,” she said.
“On the small track at Harold Park I really wanted to draw between one and four. He’s in four and he’s certainly got his chance.
“I’ll be coming out looking for the lead, but I’d be just as happy to sit in the ‘death’.”
Blacks A Fake’s good fortune at the barrier draw looked even better when his major rival in the heat, Victorian star Smoken Up, drew awkwardly inside the back row (gate eight).
“I’d much rather be where I am than Smoken Up,” Rasmussen said.
“Whether I lead or sit outside the leader, I’ll be in a position to dictate the race.”
Given he carries 1.5 bonus points into the Watpac ID10 series, a win for Blacks A Fake tomorrow night would almost guarantee him a berth in the $1 million final at Menangle on March 7.
And that would make Blacks A Fake only the second pacer – Caduceus in 1960 is the other – to qualify for five Inter Dominion finals.
Blacks A Fake is trying to become the first pacer to win four Inter Dominion finals. He currently shares the record with Our Sir Vancelot on three wins.
